30x30x30 Challenge: Days 19 thru 23
5 Days of work equals 5 new pieces! 2 figures, 1 face and 2 landscapes. I was playing around with painting and drawing on photo transfers and with painting and drawing on a fabric print of a past painting...just for fun. I really like how the messed up photo transfer with paint became the piece called the Beach. The Three Sisters goes out as homage to my Mom and my 2 Aunts to honor the beautiful little girls that they were! Click on each image to learn more about what went into them.

An Apple A Day
Ever since I've had my own studio, I've said that any day in the studio is a good day. My first studio was in the basement when I was 9. I took old curtains and rods, hung them from the ceiling and created spaces for myself and my sister that we could call our own. My parents let me use and paint a huge (over engineered) drafting table that my great-grandfather made. We played. We made stuff. We gave the stuff away to the people we loved.
Gratefully, not much has changed. Tuesday I spent time taking apart and redoing a 16 year old painting of an apple that I had given to my grandparents. I got it back after they both passed and I've known for a while that I would find the right new home for this little symbol of healthy eating. I just hadn't realized it would be mine! It's a little gift for my apple loving, health conscious husband as he embarks on training for his next marathon; maps included.
I've always known that art and creating things (in all its forms including motherhood) is what I'm meant to do. Paulo Coelho calls this your 'personal legend;' Joseph Campbell, 'your bliss;' Eckhart Tolle, 'your purpose.' I agree with these writers that all people in their hearts really know their personal legend, and that suffering comes when we ignore the signs and choose not to live that purpose. So don't listen to the voices that say it can't be done. Do what fills your heart full with joy. Then share it with people. And when that love comes back, give it again. I guarantee that it will bring you bliss.

30x30x30 Challenge: Days 5 thru 15- The Dream Pages and Other Fun Projects
Life is what happens when you are busy not blogging. My 30 minutes of art for 30 days equals 30 pieces has taken a few detours. And its all good!
I just finished The Dream Pages 2, 48" x 60", of my fabulous friend Kathleen Brodeur. I used a photo that I took of her when we went to Greece in 2001. She was having one of those intense life moments- on the trip and I believe at this exact moment of the photo. I painted her over an abstract piece of mine called The Dream Pages. This one took quite a few 30 minutes intervals!
I also went to the Orlando Make Faire with my maker husband and our maker kids. We made the coolest stuff! We did arm knitting with upcycled t-shirt pieces as yarn as directed by the awesome ladies at Indie Craft Exchange. We silk screened t-shirts , created paper flowers from upcycled magazine pages, and made LED nightlights and LED pins. We all had a blast.
Tonight, I'm making an awesome dinner of roast chicken, rosemary potatoes, and pecan and pear salad. What are you making today?

From Blog post on Oct 13, 2011:
What a great word, dwell. Emily Dickinson wrote "I dwell in possibility." This is the mantra of an artist. The belief that if you can remain aware, any emotions, good or bad, can be channeled through a person and molded into an image, a song or a sentence that inspires. I had a roller coaster ride of emotions this week and I am so grateful to have been able to focus it and and release it onto these 4 panels of wood. I've said it a hundred times, "Any day in the studio is a great day". This is my therapy. This is for me. Esther Hicks-Abraham says that when we talk about creators, we are talking about the creating of your state of being. I hope to always linger in the idea that art in all its forms has the potential to fill me, to heal me, and to save me. I dwell in that possibility. Dwell
