I am (again) honored that my work is part of the National Gallery of Artful Resistance on the fabulous web site and in the art show for Save Our Schools: On the March to Save and Transform Public Schools. A giant THANK YOU to Becky Smith for inviting me to be a part of the program.
Imagine is a 2D Mixed Media drawing and painting on fabric and paper collage on wood panel. The boy is my oldest son taken from a photo from when he was 6 years old. The original hangs in his room. I painted it because I want both my boys to know that they indeed "can do most anything". I believe that imagining possibilities leads to creativity and that creativity leads to living a life of fulfillment and joy. I want them to know that they can identify their own talents and gifts and in doing so design and map out what they want their lives to be. My hope is that schools and most importantly, the politicians that run the school system, realize the importance of creativity in learning and that how kids learn, not just what they learn, is crucial.

I recently have fallen in love (again) with doing mosaics! It started with doing pots with my boys at Cub Scouts. This past weekend I went on the prowl at Renningers Antiques and found this cute table for $10. I wanted to create something colorful and meaningful. I am thrilled with the results.
I decided to pay homage to Clara Driscoll, who worked for Louis Comfort Tiffany. Check out the great book, Clara and Mr. Tiffany. She not only created and designed his dragonfly and wisteria motifs, she created and designed the first lamps that would become his lamp collection! He not only never gave credit to his huge staff of women (the male glass workers were on strike and the women were cheaper to employ), Tiffany never let his female staff get married as long as they worked for him! So for all the women throughout the ages who have helped others get all the money and credit, I give you the spirit of the butterflies and dragonflies: metamorphosis and longevity!
I believe that we are spiritual beings having a human experience, and that underneath each personality is a collective story and life energy- the soul. Like the layers of drawing, painting and collage, I try to mimic these layers of personality, story, energy and spirit. My faces and figures are not about portraiture in the sense of capturing a likeness. They are about capturing an essence.
